KUCHING: Following the latest police statement on the stone-throwing incident, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Cr Tan Kai announced a list of proposed CCTV installation sites in the Batu Kawa area.

These include C111: Emart Batu Kawah (Cheing Pork Shop), C112: Emart Batu Kawa, C113: Emart Batu Kawah (in front of Pak Amit Cafe), C114: MJC Park 1, C115: MJC RHB Bank, C117: MJC Night Market, C118: MJC WL6, C119: MJC Choice Marketplace, C120: Everwin Batu Kawa, C121: Pasar Batu Kawa Lama Roundabout, C122: Batu Kawa Waterfront, and C123: Batu Kawa 38 Commercial Centre.

Tan Kai said discussions between MPP and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) will continue to ensure the timely implementation of the CCTV system aimed at enhancing safety and security in the area.

A man suspected of throwing stones at passing vehicles along Jalan Batu Kawa was arrested by the police on Monday night.

Tan Kai said the arrest followed two days of close cooperation between MPP and the police to investigate the incidents and prevent similar occurrences.

“We have been working hand in hand with the police to gather relevant information and explore all possible leads, including the time, motive, and identity of the suspect,” he said.

He added that police had also approached MPP to discuss the feasibility of installing CCTV cameras along the affected stretch of road to improve surveillance and public safety.

“On Sunday afternoon, I visited the area with Councillor Aaron Tay and several others. We met two nearby families who provided accounts that matched the police’s timeline of events,” he said.

Tan later received a briefing from Padawan Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi during a courtesy call to MPP. “The police informed me that the suspect had been successfully apprehended. This is reassuring news and should bring peace of mind to road users,” he said.
