Underground pipe leak cause heavy traffic

Utusan Sarawak 1 month ago
ROAD closed due to ongoing repair work.

KUCHING: Two lanes along Jalan Permat in Pending, near the Pos Malaysia office are closed due to an ongoing repair underground pipe leaks.

Pending state Assemblywoman Violet Yong said this caused severe traffic congestion during peak hours and urged the Kuching Water Board (KWB) to act immediately and resolve the issue without further delay.

“The leakage was reported to the Kuching Water Board two weeks before the Hari Raya break after receiving complaints from the public. However, I was informed that the board could only begin repair works after the holidays,” she said.

“Even now, the repairs are still not complete, and the source of the leak has yet to be found.”

She expressed frustration over the slow response and lack of urgency shown by the Kuching Water Board, saying that it has caused significant inconvenience to motorists who are caught in daily traffic jams.

“It is totally unacceptable for the Kuching Water Board to take such a long time just to identify the leak. Don’t they have proper leak detection equipment? If they do, why has it been so difficult to pinpoint the problem and carry out the necessary repairs?” she questioned.

Yong also called on the board to instruct the relevant parties to temporarily patch up the damaged road to help ease traffic flow.

“As of now, a three-lane road has been reduced to just one open lane. What’s more frustrating is the lack of any timeline to fully resolve the issue,” she added.
