KUCHING: Two persons died in a road accident with five injured along Tun Jugah Road, opposite Gala City, at around 12.40 am on April 10.
Acting Kuching Police Chief, Supt Merbin Lisa said the crash happened when a car driven by a 37 years old local man, travelling from the city centre towards the airport, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with another car driven by a 40 years old local man.
A 14-year-old girl was also in the second vehicle as a passenger.
“Following the initial collision, another car driven by a 25 years old man coming from the Kenyalang flyover struck the first vehicle, which was stuck in the middle of the road. At that moment, the driver and passenger of the second vehicle were trying to assist the first driver,” said Supt Merbin.
He added that the third vehicle then lost control and swerved to the left side of the road, crashing into a fourth car driven by a 36 years sold man who had stopped on the road shoulder to help the victims.
“Unfortunately, the drivers of the first and second vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. The 14 years old passenger sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital emergency unit,” he said.
Supt Merbin added that the drivers of the third and fourth vehicles suffered only minor injuries. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
