KOTA SAMARAHAN: A two-vehicle collision occurred late Wednesday morning at KM13 of Jalan Kota Samarahan–Tabuan Jaya, near the ILP roundabout, resulting in injuries to both drivers and extensive damage to the vehicles involved.
According to Kota Samarahan District Police Chief, Superintendent Damaterius Lautin, the accident took place at around 11.30 am and involved a Proton Saga and a Toyota Vios.
Initial investigations revealed that the Proton Saga, driven by 31-year-old Ameer Asraf Nin, an army personnel from Asajaya, was heading from Gym Level Up toward Asajaya.
As he entered the roundabout at KM13, he allegedly ran a red light and was struck on the left side by the Toyota Vios, which was proceeding straight through the intersection on a green light.
The Vios, driven by 57 years old Janet John Samai, a teacher from Taman Samarindah, lost control upon impact, skidded, overturned, and struck a traffic light pole before catching fire. The driver sustained injuries to both legs and one of her hands, while the driver of the Proton Saga suffered a wound to his mouth.
Damaterius stated that the Proton Saga sustained damage to its front and right side, while the Toyota Vios was extensively damaged due to the fire. The Proton driver was also found to be without a valid driving licence.
The case is currently being investigated under Rule 17 of the Traffic Regulations (LN166/59). Police have inspected the scene, taken measurements, and brought both vehicles to the Kota Samarahan Traffic Police Station for further investigation.
