
KUCHING: The long-standing flooding issue affecting residents in the Batu Kitang constituency is finally being addressed, with a project costing RM2.5 million now underway, said State Assemblyman Batu Kitang, Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang.
Lo said the project is on now and expected to be completed within seven to eight months.
The current drainage system will be demolished and replaced with a new one designed to divert water more effectively. The plan included the construction of a new culvert and a drain measuring 2.1 by 1.8 metres.

Lo said more than 15 houses have been affected by flooding over the past three to four years, particularly those located around Mile 9 and along the Pan Borneo Highway.
He said with the completion of the drains it will stop flooding and improved significantly the flood situation at Mile 9 including including Taman Emas and Taman Saradise affecting 300 household.
Lo pointed out that flooding is an expensive and complex issue to solve, this project offers hope for better living conditions and peace of mind for the affected.
He thanked Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Linggi for making this possible.
According to Assistant Divisional Engineer (Operation) , Reman Adop, the proposed drain is 2.1 width R. C drain, Proposed 1.80 m width R. C drain and culvert 2.1.m.
He said this project may even complete earlier that the proposed Tien frame and will solve flood issues in the area.
