KUCHING: Bau police confirmed that a pedestrian died at Batu Kitang Bridge, near the Bau-Kuching border, around 11.00 pm yesterday after a car driver collided into him.
Bau District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said initial investigations indicated that the car driver was heading straight from Kuching towards Bau when it collided with a pedestrian. The man was later found lying nearby.
“The driver did not sustain any injuries. However, the local man was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Kota Sentosa Hospital,” he said.
Supt Mohd Haide added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward or contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
He further reminded all road users to remain cautious, especially during uncertain weather conditions, and to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before driving.
