KUCHING: DAPSY Sarawak Treasurer Wong King Yii has voiced strong concern over the unresolved muddy water issue that has been plaguing residents in the Green Road area for more than a month.
Wong said that despite multiple complaints lodged including two submitted personally via the Talikhidmat platform in early June, the situation remains unresolved, with no clear explanation or permanent solution offered by the relevant authorities.
“Residents have told me the water frequently turns muddy and discoloured, clears up temporarily, and then becomes muddy again. This cycle has disrupted their daily routines and raised serious concerns about health, hygiene, and water safety,” he said.
Wong questioned the root cause of the issue and criticised the apparent lack of urgency and transparency by the Kuching Water Board (KWB).
“To date, KWB has not provided any update to me or to the affected residents. If any flushing, repairs, or maintenance have been carried out, they clearly haven’t solved the problem. The lack of communication is unacceptable,” he said.
Stressing that clean water is a basic right, Wong called on KWB to explain what investigations have been conducted so far, disclose the actual cause of the water discolouration, outline immediate and long-term plans to resolve the issue and provide a time frame for repairs.
