Teen girl alleges sexual harassment in car, Kuching police launch investigation

KUCHING: Kuching police have confirmed receiving a report from a 15-year-old local girl who alleged she was sexually harassed and molested by a man while inside a car along Jalan Camar.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The case is also being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

“We urge anyone with relevant information about this incident to come forward by contacting the Kuching District Police Control Centre at 082-244444 or directly reaching out to the investigating officer ASP Tan Kian Kok at 010-5661576,” said Alexson.

He also reminded the public not to make any speculations or spread unverified information related to the case.
