KUCHING: LPKP Sarawak has officially launched the fifth route under the SBST Kuching initiative, connecting Saujana Bus Station to Bako Terminal.

Chairman of LPKP Sarawak, Michael Kong Feng Nian, said the launch of the new route reflects the agency’s ongoing commitment to improving public transport connectivity throughout Kuching.

“This Saujana-Bako route will enhance access to key locations including the Kuching Waterfront, SJK Chung Hua No. 3, Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, Kolej Komuniti Santubong, Public Bank Padungan, Demak Laut Industrial Park, and SMK Bako,” said Kong.

He added that the weekday schedule begins with the first bus from Bako at 5.30am and from Saujana at 6.30am, with the last departures at 7.30pm. To cater to peak-hour demand, buses will run every 30 minutes between 6.30am–8.30am and 4.30pm–7.30pm. On weekends, services will operate from 6.30am to 8.30pm in both directions.

“The rollout of SBST Kuching routes has been done in stages over recent weeks, and we’ve received valuable input from the public on where they hope to see future coverage,” Kong said.

He also acknowledged the presence of YB Violet Yong, ADUN for Pending, during the launch event, noting that she raised suggestions about areas like Bintawa which require reliable public transport services.

“We take public feedback seriously. By monitoring ridership and responses, we can identify unmet demand and adjust our services accordingly,” he explained.

Kong concluded by reaffirming LPKP Sarawak’s commitment to building a more sustainable, accessible, and efficient public transport system for the benefit of all Kuching residents.
