KUCHING: Seven individuals, five local men and two local women aged between 19 and 29 were charged in the Kuching Magistrate’s Court on 30 April 2025 over four counts of payment fraud involving the use of fake QR Pay receipts at four supermarkets around the Padawan district.
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said all the suspects were arrested on 15 and 17 April 2025 by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Padawan district police headquarters.
“A total of four investigation papers have been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said.
“This offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for not less than one year and up to ten years, with whipping and a fine.”
He also reminded the public, particularly business owners, to remain cautious when accepting payments through QR Pay.
“Traders are advised to verify that transactions have been completed before allowing customers to leave,” he said.
