Upholding the spirit of community service through the Mid-Autumn Festival

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL… Eric Tay distributing moon cakes.

KUCHING: A total of 100 vegetarian meal sets, several hundred mooncakes and 70 bags of rice were distributed to residents, symbolising care and compassion while promoting the spirit of mutual help and kindness within the community by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Councillor Cr. Eric Tay

Tay said this was in collaboration with the JKKK of Jln Mathies/Padungan Utara/Bukit Mata, Kuching, organised a Mid-Autumn community outreach programme today.

He shared that since the formation of his team, they have continuously organised vegetarian meal distribution on every first and fifteenth day of the lunar month.

This effort, he said, is not only to promote the health benefits of vegetarian food but also to cultivate a culture of compassion and sharing within the community through consistent action.

He revealed that some had advised him not to hold such programmes so frequently, but he chose to persevere. “I do this because I don’t want residents to feel disappointed, and I don’t want the spirit of kindness in our community to fade away,” he said firmly.

He added that it was heartening to see many young volunteers actively taking part in meaningful community programmes, willingly shouldering responsibilities and overcoming challenges together.

“In today’s complex world, it is my honour to guide our youth towards positive and meaningful causes. Instead of merely listening to what others say, it is far better to experience and act for oneself. Only through action can we truly nurture kindness and positive values.”

He expressed his hope that such festive and charitable activities will continue to bring warmth and unity to the community, inspiring everyone to contribute towards building a harmonious, progressive, and hopeful society.
