Stampin Resettlement Scheme residents urged to stop illegal dumping

KUCHING: Special Assistant to MP Stampin, Michael Kong raised concern over illegal dumping activities at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme following public complaints.

Kong said he recently inspected a site within the area after receiving a complaint about rubbish piling up on private land. During his visit, he found heaps of discarded waste, including plastic bottles, bags, and even office furniture.

“From my checks, I was informed that the landowner has been carrying out landfilling works to improve the peaty land using stones and bricks. Unfortunately, some irresponsible individuals have taken advantage of this and turned the site into an illegal dumping ground, even disposing of government office chairs,” he explained.

Kong said the landowner’s representative acknowledged the seriousness of the problem and assured him that immediate action would be taken. The rubbish will be cleared promptly, and fencing has already been erected around the site to prevent further dumping.

“I appreciate the landowner’s swift action and cooperation in addressing this matter. Illegal dumping and public littering not only create an eyesore but also pose risks to the environment and public health,” he said.

Kong urged the public to use proper disposal channels and not resort to irresponsible dumping. “Everyone has a role to play in keeping our neighbourhoods clean, safe, and liveable for all,” he added.
