KUCHING: Malaysia is set to become a regional hub for occupational safety and health (OSH) experts and practitioners as it hosts the ASEAN Safety and Health Workers Summit 2025 (ASEAN OSH Summit 2025) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre next week.
Organised by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the summit will focus on OSH and worker well-being, drawing around 3,000 participants and more than 70 experts from ASEAN member states, as well as international speakers from Denmark, the United States, the United Kingdom and Türkiye.
NIOSH Chairman and Member of Parliament for Stampin, Chong Chieng Jen, encouraged Malaysian OSH professionals to seize this rare opportunity by participating in flagship events such as the Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health (COSH 2025) and the NIOSH International Standards Seminar (NISS 2025).
“COSH, which started as a national programme, has now evolved into an international ASEAN platform. It’s no longer just a conference – it’s the largest OSH gathering in Malaysia, and this year’s participation certificate will proudly bear the ASEAN logo,” said Chong.
Held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, Chong noted that the ASEAN OSH Summit 2025, taking place on 4 and 5 August, will open new avenues for regional cooperation, innovation, and policy development centred on workers’ well-being.
In addition to COSH 2025 and NISS 2025, the summit will also feature the Executive Meeting of the Asian Occupational Safety & Health Research Institute (AOSHRI), involving OSH research institutions from 14 Asian countries, and the “ASEAN++ Workshop and Technical Visit” attended by representatives from ASEAN OSH agencies.
Another key highlight is the Malaysian Research Initiative for National Agenda (MaRINA 3.0) workshop, which will chart national OSH research priorities from 2026 to 2030. The summit will also host a record-setting OSH Integrity Pledge and an exhibition featuring over 60 OSH-related companies.
According to Chong, among the topics to be presented include psychosocial risk management, applications of artificial intelligence in workplace safety, ESG strategies in work environments, and the future of inclusive and healthy employment.
“COSH 2025 and NISS 2025 offer comprehensive professional learning opportunities, with recognition from various professional bodies and regulatory authorities,” he said.
Participants of COSH 2025 will earn 15 CEP points from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), 16 CPD points from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), 15 myCPD points from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), and 16 CPD points from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
Participation fees are claimable under the HRD Corp grant for eligible employers, and NIOSH also accepts payments through government Local Orders (LO), Guarantee Letters (GL), and Letters of Undertaking (LOU).
