
KUCHING: The Kuching police arrested two local men in separate drug raids on Tuesday, one under 39 B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death sentence if convicted. In both cases, syabu (methamphetamine) were seized.
Kuching police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that in the first case, at 12.20 pm, a team from the Kuching District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) conducted a raid in the Tabuan Dusun area and arrested a 39-year-old local man.
The team seized 5.10 grams of suspected syabu, estimated to be worth RM561.00. The suspect was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. He has no prior drug-related record and is currently remanded for three days until July 12 for further investigation.
The suspect is investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of not less than two years and not more than five years, along with not less than three strokes and not more than nine strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
In the second case, at around 8.10 pm, (JSJN IPK) raided a house in the Stampin Baru area and arrested a 46-year-old local man where police confiscated 70.50 grams of suspected syabu, valued at RM7,750.00.
The suspect was also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has no prior drug-related record.
He is being remanded for five days until July 14 to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Alexson urged members of the public to continue providing information related to drug trafficking and abuse happening around them by reporting it to the nearest police station to help combat and curb such activities together.
