Man arrested over viral street altercation

KUCHING Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu calls for further information from police. 

KUCHING: Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that Kuching police has arrested a 44 year old local man in connection with a viral video showing a public altercation.

In a 33 second video clip that went viral it shows the suspect shouting at and pushing a 57 year old local man along Jalan Patingan, Kuching.

Alexson said initial investigations revealed that the suspect who has previous criminal records admitted to being involved in the incident. 

He added that a urine test conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and criminal intimidation. 

If convicted under Section 323, the suspect faces up to one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, while Section 506 provides for a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

Alexson urged members of the public who may have further information related to the incident to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Mancha Gubak at 013-5958260 or the nearest police station.
