KUCHING: For the past one week, members of the public have been voicing concerns over a serious water leakage at the junction of Jalan Kung Phin and Lorong Desa Wira 5 as the leak is substantial, leading to a large amount of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) being lost every day the issue remains unresolved.

Michael Kong, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, said he visited the location yesterday to assess the situation and was accompanied by personnel from the Kuching Water Board (KWB), who inspected the site and evaluated the extent of the damage.

According to Kong, KWB is in the process of sourcing the necessary parts before beginning repair works.

“Although DAP Sarawak is not part of the state government, we strive to work constructively with relevant agencies to raise public concerns and advocate for prompt solutions. This is our responsibility to the people,” he said.

Kong also referred to a recent case involving a long-standing water pipe leakage at Jalan Highfield Light Industry, which was only acknowledged publicly by the SUPP Batu Kawah Service Centre on Facebook after DAP highlighted the problem.

“Water is a vital resource, and allowing such leakages to continue unchecked is a failure in governance.”

Kong said they will continue monitoring the situation and push for swift action. He urged all relevant agencies to treat such cases with urgency in the interest of responsible governance and proper water management.
