SJK(C) Kenyalang receives RM50,000 for school repairs

KUCHING: Pending State Assemblywoman Violet Yong has expressed her appreciation to Deputy Minister of Education YB Wong Kah Woh for his prompt response in approving a RM50,000 allocation to support urgent repair and upgrading works at SJK(C) Kenyalang.

“I sincerely thank YB Wong Kah Woh for visiting SJK(C) Kenyalang and for immediately committing RM50,000 to address the school’s pressing infrastructure issues.

“Although the school is located in central Kuching, its building is over five decades old and suffers from serious deterioration. Problems such as roof leakages, termite-infested window frames, and uneven flooring have raised real safety concerns,” said Yong.

Yong, who is also an alumna of the school, said she found it necessary to arrange for the Deputy Minister to visit the premises in person to understand the challenges faced by the school.

“After engaging with the teachers and members of the Parent-Teacher Association, YB Wong announced that the allocation would be channelled through the Sarawak Education Department to carry out the necessary repairs,” she said.

She noted that government schools like SJK(C) Kenyalang rely heavily on federal funds, which are often limited, and many face difficulties in meeting increasing maintenance costs. The school, she added, operates with minimal resources and depends largely on the efforts of the PTA.

Yong also acknowledged the contributions of Kuching MP YB Kelvin Yii.

“I would like to thank YB Kelvin Yii for his continued support in improving school infrastructure through constituency allocations over the years, which has helped provide a better learning environment for students.

“The safety and well-being of our children must always come first,” she stressed.

“I remain committed to working closely with all relevant authorities to ensure schools in my constituency are safe and conducive for learning,” she said.
