KUCHING: Member of the Malaysian Parliament for Bandar Kuching, Kelvin Yii called to parents and guardians to take an active role in educating their children on road safety including educating them on the danger of driving without a valid license as it is a shared responsibility we must all uphold.
Yii said expressed his sadness on the tragic accident involving three vehicles and two motorcycles that occurred along Jalan Stutong yesterday as the incident had profoundly impacted frequent road users and the residents of the surrounding areas.
“We have engaged with a few of the residents and frequent road users and such accidents are quite a frequent occurrence in that part of the road.
“That is why some safety measures must be urgently taken to address the concern of the people.
“The safety of our roads remains a matter of utmost priority.
“We will intensify our efforts to engage, communicate and collaborate with the relevant authorities, including MBKS, to address road safety concerns in this area and across Kuching, in terms of improving street lighting and setting up protective barriers between lanes to enhance safety and reduce the risk of accidents, ” he said in a press statement.
Yii believed that proactive safety measures must be taken to prevent further tragedies and that l included speed limits and proper enforcement in this straight road.
He reminded all road users to exercise greater caution, particularly during this festive season, when traffic volume tends to increase.
