Wong King Yii urges swift action to resolve muddy water issue at Green Road

WONG King Yii calls for solutions to recurring muddy water issue.

KUCHING: Sarawak DAPSY treasurer Wong King Yii expressed his deep concern over the recurring muddy water problem affecting residents in the Green Road area, calling for a permanent and transparent solution from Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd.

Wong said the issue has persisted for months despite repeated reports lodged through the Talikhidmat system and flushing operations carried out by the authorities.

“Since June, I have personally submitted more than five reports through Talikhidmat, but the problem continues to resurface. Residents have told me that their tap water frequently turns muddy and discoloured, clears up for a few days, and then becomes murky again,” he said.

He added that some residents even reported yellowish water despite using filters, raising serious concerns over water quality, hygiene, and health.

“This has become a daily hardship. Access to clean water is a basic right, not a privilege,” Wong stressed.

He questioned why the authorities have yet to identify and address the root cause of the issue and urged Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd to be transparent with the public.

“I call on Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd to clearly explain what investigations have been carried out so far, disclose the actual cause of the muddy water, outline both short- and long-term solutions, and provide a clear timeline for a permanent fix,” he said.

Wong said temporary measures such as flushing are no longer sufficient and demanded concrete action to ensure residents receive clean and safe water supply.

“The people of Green Road deserve answers, action, and clean water, not more delays and silence. Enough is enough,” he added.
