KUCHING: Police arrested a man and a woman after they were caught stealing aluminium window frames from vacant shop lots at Taman Bukit Berangan Ria Phase 1 here on Sunday.
Kota Samarahan District Police Chief Supt Damateries Lautin a 47-year-old mechanic and his son-in-law noticed suspicious activity near the complainant’s workshop in the same block at about 8.30 pm.
“They saw a man dismantling aluminium window frames from the shop lot and loading them into a maroon Proton Saga, while a woman waited inside the car.
Both were nabbed by the complainant and his son-in-law before the police were called in,” he said.
Police later seized a Proton Saga, a multipurpose plier, a black bag, and 100 pieces of cut aluminium frames of various sizes believed to be stolen items.
Damateries said both suspects, who have no previous criminal records, have been remanded for four days until August 29 to assist with investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
“The premises involved are vacant shop lots without electricity or security systems, making them prone to theft. Investigations are still ongoing,” he added.
Losses are estimated at RM500.
