KUCHING: Special Assistant to MP Stampin, Michael Kong called on the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to take immediate action to repair a badly damaged back lane drain behind House Nos. 100–103 at Lorong 2, Jalan Burung Rawa.
Visiting the site today after receiving complaints from residents over the worsening condition of the main drain, Kong described the situation as alarming, with several sections already broken apart, exposing soil to erosion and further weather damage.
The drain, he warned, is on the verge of total collapse, posing risks to the stability of the back lane and the fences of nearby homes.

In a desperate bid to slow the damage, residents have placed sheets of metal roofing over the holes. While acknowledging their effort, Kong stressed that such makeshift measures are unsafe and unsustainable.
He reminded that the back lane serves not only as a drainage system but also as an important access route for residents. Allowing its condition to deteriorate further, he said, would threaten property safety and endanger lives.
Kong urged MPP to conduct an immediate inspection and prioritise repair works, emphasising that residents should not be left to fend for themselves with temporary fixes while their homes and safety remain at risk.
