KUCHING: The individual believed to be responsible for the recent stone throwing incidents along Jalan Batu Kawa has been arrested and is now under police custody, with his mental condition currently under observation.
In recent days many vehicle owners complained on social media that their vehicles were destroyed by someone throwing stones at them during the night along Batu Kawa.
MP Stampin, Chong Chieng Jen, who visited the Padawan police department today with his assistant Sim Kiat Leng, confirmed the arrest.
“During our visit, the OCPD of Padawan informed us that the suspect was apprehended last night,” said Chong.
“We were told that the police had assigned regular patrols along Jalan Batu Kawa since last month following several stone throwing incidents that damaged car windscreens. That ongoing effort has now resulted in the suspect’s arrest.”

Chong added that at the time of the arrest, the suspect was seen arranging stones on the road divider, and his appearance matched that of the person captured on dash cam footage during one of the earlier incidents.
“The police are not ruling out the possibility that others may have been involved and will continue monitoring the situation,” he said, adding that an application will be made to the court to further detain the suspect.
Chong also extended his gratitude to the police for their persistent work.
“I thank the police for their tireless efforts to ensure our streets remain safe. I urge the public to continue cooperating with the authorities and to report any suspicious activities to help with crime prevention,” he said.
