KUCHING: MPP Chairman Tan Kai announced the formation of the Smart & Sustainable City (SSC) Standing Committee, established in accordance with the Standing Orders of the Padawan Municipal Council (Part II, Section 38) during the Special Full Council Meeting for the 2025–2028 term.
Tan Kai said the committee’s purpose is to deliberate on relevant matters and provide recommendations to the council.
“Its scope includes reviewing and approving smart and sustainable development projects and strategies, ensuring alignment with local, state, and national plans such as the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), the Kuching (Padawan) Green City Action Plan (GCAP), and the Kuching Smart City Master Plan 2021,” he added.
The committee will explore the adoption of smart technologies, formulate policies on sustainability including green building standards and circular economy models and oversee interagency coordination to resolve implementation challenges.
It will also monitor key performance indicators, such as energy efficiency in buildings, greenhouse gas emissions, smart city ratings, and public satisfaction levels.
In addition, the SSC Standing Committee will work on mobilizing funds through grants, public-private partnerships, and international collaborations.
It also aims to promote public awareness and conduct capacity building workshops for stakeholders.
Tan Kai welcomed the newly appointed Deputy Chairman, the Acting Municipal Secretary and ten new councillors to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
“I look forward to fostering a spirit of comradeship, professionalism, and enthusiasm in serving the people of MPP. I am confident that, together, we can achieve our shared goals,” he said.
