KUCHING: A netizens took to social media the importance of camaraderie in safeguarding the neighbouring houses to combat housebreaking and theft and other crimes.
Jeffrey in his social media expressed disappointment that some irresponsible villains went on a rampage in his neighbourhood in Jalan Depo last night smashing and breaking windscreens of many cars parked along the road.
He said another neighbour saw two persons Molotov a friend’s home and burned down his car but fortunately, only the front part of the house was torched and firemen came to their rescue.
Jeffrey believed that this could be done by someone bent on revenge or having a grudge against his neighbourhood of which he was unaware which is scary and worrisome.
He expressed sadness that nowadays the residents are not interested to be on guard even on a rotation basis and that he is too old to do it.
Pointing out that in the old days when he first moved into the neighbourhood, he created a Neighbourhood Watch whereby almost every night the neighbours would take turn to guard the neighbourhood.
Armed with a golf stick, he wrote that he used to wake up early in the morning going around with some neighbours waiting to pounce on any suspicious characters.
Jeffrey said a police report has been lodged and hoped that the culprits will be caught to prevent a similar occurrence.
When contacted by Utusan Sarawak, Kuching Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that there is a case and he would issue a statement on it.
