
KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a light pole along KM 17, Kampung Tanjung Bowang, Singai/Sagah Road on Sunday afternoon.
Bau district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahaman, said the Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division received information about the accident at around 4.48 pm.
“Preliminary investigation found that the Yamaha 135LC rider was travelling from Musi towards Kampung Singai, Bau. Upon reaching a section of the road, he is believed to have lost control and veered to the left side before crashing into a light pole,” he said.
He added that the impact caused the rider to collide with another motorcycle on the grassy roadside.
“The rider of the Yamaha 135LC was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics from Bau Hospital,” Mohd Haide said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
He urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist police investigations or contact the nearest police station.
“The public is advised not to speculate about the incident. Road users are also reminded to exercise caution, especially in uncertain weather conditions, and to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling,” he added.
