KUCHING: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting blasted the endless flood of illegal moneylender advertisements, saying the situation has reached an overwhelming level despite repeated enforcement action.

“Every week our enforcement team pulls down these posters and stickers, yet by the next day new ones are up again. At any point in time, the numbers are simply too many and SMC is swamped by this menace,” Ting said when asked by Utusan Sarawak.
He made clear that the problem cannot be solved by the council alone, calling on other authorities to act decisively. “Relevant agencies must step in and ensure licensed moneylenders stop such practices. If not, this will never end,” he stressed.
Ting also urged the public to stop tolerating the visual pollution caused by such illegal ads. “We hope residents will assist by removing them in their areas. Only by working together can we clear our streets of this scourge,” he stressed.

This is not the first time Ting has raised the alarm. Last year, he had already condemned the recurrence of these advertisements, warning that without stronger cooperation from enforcement bodies and the public, the problem would spiral further out of control.
