KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap urged Sarawak Metro to raise its standards and be proactive in dealing with community over serious concerns over complaints from Taman Stutong Indah residents about the conduct of contractors under Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the company managing the project.
He said residents deserve respect, not to be treated as an afterthought after allegations such as requesting to use private electricity and failure to provide clear, timely communication are unacceptable.
“Sarawak Metro must not allow its actions or lack thereof to damage the reputation of the GPS led government,” he stressed.
He said he gave his full support for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, describing it as a visionary initiative by the Sarawak Government that will modernise public transport and enhance urban mobility but that efficient and responsible project management involves early stakeholder engagement, proactive risk assessment, and effective communication, not just during crises but from the outset.
Yap said he will continue to monitor the project closely and called on Sarawak Metro to take corrective measures to rebuild public trust and ensure the project is executed professionally and in a people-centric manner.
