Fatal road accident claims two lives at Kpg Sebat, Lundu

Utusan Sarawak 5 days ago
TWO men died on the spot after crashing into each other.

SEMATAN: Two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on collision early this morning at KM 24 of Jalan Lundu-Sematan, near Kampung Sebat.

The accident, which occurred around 4.44 am, involved a Honda C100B motorcycle and a Modenas Kriss. Both riders died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

Lundu police Chief, Supt Sudirman Kram said the first victim, a 29-year-old man from Sematan who worked as a labourer, was riding the Honda C100B. The second rider, a 25-year-old man, also from Sematan, was riding the Modenas Kriss and was unemployed. He did not possess a valid motorcycle licence. Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Sudirman said preliminary investigations revealed that the rider of the Honda C100B was travelling against traffic flow from Sematan towards Lundu when the collision occurred. The other rider was heading towards Sematan and was in his correct lane.

“Initial findings suggest that the collision was caused by the rider travelling against traffic flow. Both riders also showed indications of being under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Supt Sudirman reminded all road users to remain vigilant and obey traffic regulations at all times.

“The public is advised to always be cautious on the road. Wear proper safety gear, do not drive under the influence, and follow all traffic rules to prevent such tragedies,” he said.
