KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has dismissed opposition criticism of Sarawak’s rural development agenda as misleading and irresponsible, saying GPS’ track record speaks for itself.
He said the state government has consistently allocated 60 to 67 percent of its development expenditure to rural areas, among the highest in Malaysia, reflecting GPS’ commitment to closing the urban-rural gap.
“At the same time, urban centres like Kuching and Kota Sentosa have benefited from drainage upgrades, school improvements, road repairs, and support for cultural facilities. These are projects already delivered, not just promises,” Yap said.
He added that GPS’ development achievements can be seen on the ground, from better roads and utilities to expanded internet access and upgraded community facilities.
“The opposition should stop playing politics with development. The people can see the results for themselves,” he said, reaffirming GPS’ focus on inclusive growth under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
