Wilfred Yap refutes claims of neglect at Kota Sentosa Health Clinic

KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has dismissed allegations that Kota Sentosa Health Clinic has been neglected, calling the claims misleading and politically driven.

“The recent statement by Michael Kong alleging neglect of Kota Sentosa Health Clinic ignores the substantial and continuous investments made to improve the clinic’s facilities,” he said. Yap stressed that healthcare is a federal responsibility, and elected Members of Parliament should ensure issues are addressed promptly.

Yap, who has served on the clinic’s advisory panel since 2022, said he has consistently prioritised upgrading the clinic through the state’s Rural Transformation Programme and Minor Rural Project allocations.

“Between 2023 and 2025, more than RM1.6 million has been allocated for improvements to the clinic’s infrastructure and patient facilities,” he said.

He listed the upgrades as follows RTP 2023: Construction of a car park worth RM50,000,RTP 2025: Second phase car park (RM250,000), new car park at the main road (RM50,000), upgrading of facilities and building amenities (RM300,000), and construction of a new medical laboratory building (RM500,000) and RTP 2026: Sheltered car park for clinic staff (RM250,000).

He said an additional RM85,000 from MRP and community support funds had also been channelled into improving patient comfort and service efficiency. These included benches, water dispensers, dental equipment, air coolers, counter upgrades, pharmacy renovations, and community health programmes.

“All these initiatives show the Sarawak Government’s continuous commitment to ensure the clinic remains functional, comfortable, and able to serve patients with dignity,” he said.

During a visit today, Yap delivered two hot and cold water dispensers and ten three-seater link benches for patients and visitors, saying the move reflects ongoing cooperation with the clinic’s management.

He said claims of “prolonged neglect” based on old but usable chairs were inaccurate and unfair to the clinic’s staff.

“My comment about unnecessary drama referred to the needless politicisation of an issue that was already being resolved,” he said.

Yap said the GPS government prioritises action and tangible results over political theatrics.

“My service record at Kota Sentosa Health Clinic speaks for itself. I will continue to work with the clinic’s management and the Sarawak Health Department to ensure the community receives healthcare services of the highest standard,” he said.
