KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap officiated the Education Excellent Award Ceremony and Sarawak Day Celebration hosted by the Kuching Fui Tung Onn Community Association, held to honour high-achieving students and to mark Sarawak’s unique cultural heritage and development.
In his address, Yap commended the organisers for their dedication to promoting academic success and strengthening community ties. He stressed that while academic performance is important, it must be underpinned by good values, a strong sense of identity, and civic responsibility.
He said the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) relies on active participation from all layers of society, especially the younger generation, to help build a prosperous and progressive Sarawak.
To support the association’s efforts, Yap also presented a RM3,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant, which he said reflects his ongoing commitment to supporting education and cultural initiatives in his constituency and beyond.
He added that the event mirrored the spirit of Sarawak Maju Makmur, noting that lifelong learning and service to the community remain key to both personal development and broader social progress.
The celebration concluded with the presentation of academic awards and a cultural performance, marking Sarawak Day in a way that captured the unity and vibrant heritage of the Sarawakian community.
