KUCHING: Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, Wilfred Yap officially handed over the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025 project to upgrade the compound of SK Satria Jaya and permanently resolve a one-metre-deep sinkhole problem that had raised safety concerns for students and staff.
The Public Works Department (JKR) formally handed the Letter of Award (LOA) to the appointed contractor, Muffa Trading, marking the start of the RM150,000 rectification and upgrading works funded under the Sarawak Government’s RTP allocation. The project will involve stabilising the ground, repairing structural damage, and improving the surrounding compound to ensure safety for students, teachers, and visitors.
The sinkhole, which first appeared in October 2024, became a pressing concern after reports from the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG). Yap had immediately inspected the site with JKR officers, while the Fire and Rescue Department cordoned off the affected area to prevent accidents.
“I am deeply relieved that all bureaucratic red tape has now been overcome and that work can finally commence. This project is vital to safeguard the wellbeing of SK Satria Jaya’s students and to provide them with a safe and conducive learning environment,” Yap said.
He expressed gratitude to JKR for their technical guidance and to Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for ensuring the RTP continues to address urgent community needs in education, infrastructure, and public safety.
Yap said he will continue to push for people-centric projects under the GPS Government.
“The problems faced by the people are my responsibilities, and I will put in my utmost effort to resolve them competently, accountably, and transparently,” he stressed.
