KUCHING: Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman Wilfred Yap commended the dedication of teachers, parents, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) for their collective efforts in nurturing future talents for Sarawak at the SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor (SMK DPHA Gapor) 2025 Graduation and Excellence Awards Ceremony.
Expressing appreciation for the invite, Yap congratulated all award recipients and encouraged them to continue striving for greater success.
“Student success does not depend solely on teachers’ efforts. Parents play an equally important role, while the most crucial factor lies in the student’s own determination and motivation,” he said.
Yap also challenged students to apply the knowledge imparted by their teachers and prove their ability to achieve even greater success in the future, urging them to make their school, Sarawak, and Malaysia proud through excellence in both academics and character.
He highlighted the importance of educators embracing innovation and technology in teaching, in line with the government’s continuous efforts under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) to strengthen education quality.
Yap further noted that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Sarawak government has placed strong emphasis on improving English proficiency among students to ensure global competitiveness.
He added that the Premier’s policy of providing free tertiary education at Sarawak-owned universities reflects a commitment to ensuring no deserving student is denied access to higher education due to financial limitations.
“These forward-looking policies show that the State Government is investing in our youth’s future, aligning with Sarawak’s vision of producing a knowledgeable, skilled, and globally competent generation,” he said.
In recognition of the school’s efforts, Yap also presented a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 to support SMK DPHA Gapor in organising the event.
