KUCHING: Commercial Vehicle Lisensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong spoke to several traders who raised concern over the lack of parking spaces at the Open Air market and poor traffic management in the vicinity, an issue further worsened by the recent closure of the Saujana Bus Terminal and the adjacent shoplots, which previously offered essential parking spaces.
Kong was paying a visit to the Market this morning to observe the ongoing operations of the Bas.My Kuching public transport service.
He said the visit was part of ongoing efforts to enhance public transport in the city and stressed the importance of having a dedicated and properly planned bus interchange to serve stage buses in Kuching.
He said they had have taken note of these concerns and will engage with DBKU to explore potential solutions to improve traffic and parking conditions in the area, he said, adding that a well-planned interchange would serve as a key hub to support a more efficient and organised public transport network.
During his visit, Kong also took the time to walk around the area and interact with nearby businesses and traders to gather feedback on the service.
He expressed gladness that many were satisfied with the Bas.My Kuching initiative, with several highlighting that the increase in foot traffic has brought renewed life to the downtown area, which had been seeing a slowdown in recent years.
Kong added that LPKP Sarawak is currently collecting public feedback on the Bas.My Kuching service to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the community.
He encouraged the public to share their thoughts and suggestions through an online feedback form available at:https://forms.gle/kyLGEmPSiTc9Tdvz6
“Your input is invaluable in helping us build a more reliable, inclusive, and people-friendly public transport system for Kuching,” he said.
