KUCHING: Police arrested three individuals and seized various types of illegal drugs in two separate raids conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) Kuching this week.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first arrest was made on July 14 at around 3.30pm when a 25-year-old local man was detained during a raid at a house in the New Semariang Town area.
“During the operation, police seized 398 grams of suspected cannabis worth an estimated RM11,940. The suspect tested positive for THC and does not have any prior drug-related offences. He has been remanded for seven days until July 22 to assist with investigations,” he said.
In the second case, ACP Alexson said a man, 31, and a woman, 34, were arrested at a house in Tabuan Jaya around 12.40pm on July 15.
“Among the drugs seized were 258.74 grams of suspected ecstasy powder, 1.48 grams of syabu, and 0.95 grams of ketamine with an estimated total value of RM621. Both suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and benzodiazepines,” he disclosed.
Alexson added that the male suspect has four prior drug-related records, while the female suspect has none. Both have been remanded for five days until July 21 for further investigation.
All suspects are being investigated under Section 39B and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Section 39B carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death.
He urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing information on any drug distribution or abuse activities in their communities.
“Your cooperation is crucial in helping us curb the spread of drugs in our society,” he said.
