KUCHING: Police arrested two foreign men and seized drugs worth RM34,513.60 in three separate raids in Lundu. One of them face a charge of 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death sentence.

Lundu district police chief, Superintendent Sudirman Kram, said the operations were conducted by the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department in collaboration with the Lundu Narcotics Division, between 6.30pm on October 2 and 12.30am on October 3.

“In the first raid, a 33-year-old foreign man was arrested behind a hotel in Lundu town, where seven grams of methamphetamine worth RM770 were seized.

Acting on his lead, police raided a hotel room in town and uncovered 304.08 grams of methamphetamine worth RM33,448.80,” he said.

In a separate raid, police arrested a second foreign man, aged 36, at an unnumbered house in Lorong 15, Kampung Stungkor, Lundu. He was found in possession of 2.68 grams of methamphetamine, worth RM294.80.

The total drug haul weighed more than 313 grams, which police said is enough to endanger the lives of approximately 1,568 individuals. Both suspects tested negative for drug use but were found without valid travel documents. They have no prior criminal records.

The first suspect is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and mandatory whipping upon conviction.

The second suspect is being probed under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both.

Both men have been remanded for seven days until October 11 to assist investigations.

“Police are now pursuing other members of the syndicate to ensure the entire network is dismantled. This success is the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public. The Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking. Drugs are the nation’s number one enemy,” Supt Sudirman stressed.

Members of the public with information related to drug activities are urged to contact the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) hotline at 012-208 7222.
