KUCHING: LPKP Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong disclosed that the recent temporary relocation of Bas.My Kuching bus stops at Jalan Power and Jalan Masjid has received positive feedback from traders around the Open Air Market area.
During a visit to the site earlier today, Kong met with shopkeepers to listen to their views on the change. Many welcomed the move, saying it has helped ease traffic congestion and reduce disruption to their businesses.
“This decision was not made lightly,” said Kong. “When I walked the area on 23 July, several business owners voiced concerns about how the bus operations were affecting traffic and their daily routines. We took those concerns seriously and acted quickly.”
In response, LPKP Sarawak held a meeting on July 24. After thorough discussion, it was agreed that the bus stops would be temporarily relocated to improve traffic flow and minimise the impact on nearby businesses. The change took effect on 1 August, giving bus operators enough time to inform the public and adjust their operations.
Kong said the move was made with both the public and the business community in mind. He stressed that decisions were based on direct feedback from those affected on the ground.
“We are closely monitoring the outcome of this relocation and will make further improvements where necessary. At the same time, we are working with DBKU and other agencies to find a more suitable and permanent site for a public transport hub in Kuching,” he said.
Kong encouraged the public to continue providing feedback. He said Bas.My Kuching, as a federal initiative under the supervision of LPKP Sarawak, is committed to ongoing improvements through real engagement with the community.
“Our doors are always open to those who genuinely care about improving public transportation in Kuching,” he added.
