KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Cr. Tan Kai has responded to recent claims by Michael Kong, the Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who alleged that the public park at Taman Phoenix has been neglected.
Tan Kai described the accusation as unfounded and stressed that MPP remains committed to the upkeep of public facilities under its jurisdiction.
“We take the welfare of our residents seriously and have always ensured that public parks are maintained accordingly. Our landscape team has inspected the equipment at Taman Phoenix and confirmed it is still safe for public use,” he said.
He also revealed that the park in question has already been earmarked for improvement under the state-approved Projek Rakyat initiative.
“This particular park has been identified by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Batu Kawa assemblyman, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, as part of the Projek Rakyat for upgrading. Our team has completed a site visit and is now preparing the scope of works and tender documents for the upgrade,” he explained.
Taking a swipe at political opponents, he added that DAP prefers to criticise publicly while MPP is focused on getting the work done. Until now, we have yet to receive any funding contribution from the Member of Parliament for Stampin to support the improvement of facilities for the rakyat.
Tan Kai said that MPP’s priority is delivering real outcomes for the community through responsible planning and action.
