KUCHING: Today marks the 66th anniversary of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), a party deeply rooted in Sarawak’s history, founded on the principles of independence, unity, and dedicated public service, said Party President, Dato Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said since its humble beginnings in 1959 as the first multiracial political party in Sarawak, SUPP has consistently played a key role in shaping the political landscape of the state. Over the decades, it has remained steadfast in defending the rights and interests of Sarawakians while adapting to the changing needs of society.
“SUPP’s enduring presence reflects the trust that Sarawakians have placed in our leadership and our mission. We have always stood for unity and inclusiveness, and as we look forward, we remain committed to uplifting all communities across Sarawak and ensuring that no one is left behind, ” he added.
He stressed that SUPP’s relevance today lies in its ability to remain grounded in its founding values while being future-oriented. “We must continue to nurture young leaders, embrace innovation, and work closely with all communities to secure a better future for Sarawak within Malaysia. Our struggle is not just political and it’s a continuous effort to build a just, united, and prosperous Sarawak for generations to come.”
As SUPP turns 66, Dr Sim reckoned that it is not just a celebration of the party’s past but a reaffirmation of its commitment to the people. The journey continues to be a stronger, united, and with renewed purpose.
