KUCHING: The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) has recorded 21 successful operations between September 1 to 14 under Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Chiller and Op Taring Awas/Batas, with total seizures worth RM31.2 million.
Sarawak GOF Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the operations uncovered a series of cases ranging from smuggling of untaxed cigarettes and liquor to attempts to transport contraband goods such as frozen meat, onions, rice and subsidised cooking oil across illegal routes near the Sarawak–Indonesia border.
“Among the significant seizures were 45,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes worth over RM18 million in Kuching, 11,400 cartons of cigarettes and 5,370 litres of liquor valued at RM4.6 million in Bintulu, as well as several cases of frozen food smuggling involving thousands of kilograms of meat and sausages without valid permits.

“These successes demonstrated the force’s commitment in safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting the economy from smuggling syndicate,” he added.
Lim pointed out that his officers remain vigilant in carrying out enforcement duties to ensure Sarawak is not used as a transit hub for smuggling activities. Every operation is a clear message that we will continue to combat these illegal activities without compromise.
The suspects detained include both locals and foreigners, aged between 18 and 78, while vehicles ranging from cars to lorries and even trailers were also seized.
