KUCHING: Michael Kong, Special Assistant to Chong Chieng Jen urged the government to review housing development policies to strengthen safeguards for homeowners, following feedback from residents experiencing structural issues in their properties.
He said a resident of Lorong Stapok Utara 2, Ngu, recently observed his fence sinking and cracks forming on his car porch. His neighbour, Lo, has also reported parts of his home showing similar signs of sinking.
After visiting the site with engineers, Kong explained that the condition may be linked to soil and foundation challenges, including the absence of a retaining wall near the river.
“This situation highlights the importance of ensuring that housing projects are supported by proper groundwork and monitoring, especially in areas with softer soil,” Kong said.
He suggested that policies could be strengthened to ensure developments are built to last for generations, providing families with both safety and peace of mind.
“It would be timely for the government to consider enhancing regulations so that residents are better protected, and future housing developments meet the highest standards,” Kong added.
