KUCHING: The Stampin Parliamentary Service Centre has extended financial support to a charity haircut event organized by the mosque in Kampung Lidah Tanah, ensuring students can start the new school term looking neat and tidy.
Special Assistant to Member of Parliament (MP) for Stampin, Soo Tien Ren, represented the service centre in handing over the grant on Sunday for an event aimed to provide free haircuts for primary and secondary school students.
“A few days ago, the mosque chairman personally submitted a letter to YB Chong, requesting financial assistance for this charitable initiative.
“YB Chong immediately instructed me to attend the event on his behalf and to present the cheque,” Soo stated.
Soo also shared a heartwarming encounter with the two barbers offering their services at the event.
“Previously, they had sought financial assistance from our service centre due to difficulties in their livelihood.
“We provided them with some support to help them restart their barbering business. It is heartening to see them now paying it forward through this charitable event,” he said.
During his visit, Soo engaged with villagers and emphasized the Stampin MP’s commitment to assisting people regardless of race, with a focus on supporting the lower – and middle – income groups.
“Giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, but teaching him how to fish feeds him for a lifetime.
“That is why we are always willing to support those who strive to improve their lives by helping them find sustainable employment.
“At the same time, we also hope they will continue to spread kindness to others,” he said.
The initiative reflects the service centre’s dedication to uplifting the community and fostering a spirit of kindness to others.
