KUCHING: Bau police will charge six motorcycle owners in court as part of efforts to rid the town of noisy, modified motorcycles with blaring exhausts and unsafe alterations.
Speaking to Utusan Sarawak, Bau District police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said this was the focus of a traffic operation carried out over the weekend, which resulted in the seizure of six motorcycles and the issuance of 39 summonses.
He said road users had complained about the excessive noise from these modified motorcycles, which disrupt the peace of the town.
The operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of IPD Bau around the Bau Market area, involved inspections of 35 motorcycles and 45 individuals.

Dr Daram said the crackdown targeted not only illegally modified motorcycles but also other traffic offences.
A total of 19 summonses were issued for various offences, including missing side mirrors (7), riding without a licence (5), not displaying a registration number (4), using non-standard plates (1), not wearing a helmet (1), failure to display a ‘P’ licence (1), and expired road tax (1).
Dr Daram emphasised that public safety and peace of mind must come first.
He also reminded parents to keep a close eye on their children, especially teenagers, who may be involved in unsafe or illegal riding activities.
“Community responsibility starts at home. We urge parents to help us keep our roads safe,” he added.
Dr Daram warned that such raids will continue and strongly advised those with modified motorcycles to remove the illegal modifications.
He said police welcome information from the public regarding illegal street racing or reckless motorcyclists. Reports can be made by calling 082-763311.
