KUCHING: Padawan District Police have arrested six local men believed to be involved in a cable theft incident that recently went viral on social media.
Padawan Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, said the police detected a 12-second video circulating on social media on July 17, around 2.30 pm, showing the theft occurring along Jalan Kunchit in Kuching.
“Following the viral video, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Padawan District Police Headquarters conducted intelligence gathering between 8.00 pm and midnight on the same day. As a result, six local men aged between 25 and 35 were arrested,” he said in a statement.
According to him, police also seized four cars and tools believed to have been used for cutting cables.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. All suspects will be remanded to assist with further investigations.
