KUCHING: The Sarawak government has reaffirmed its commitment to the people by introducing the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), a landmark initiative aimed at making higher education accessible to all. This scheme ensures that every Anak Sarawak, regardless of background, can pursue tertiary education without the burden of tuition fees.
Batu Kitang organising Secretary, Gerald Goh praised the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward equal opportunity in education.
“This scheme is more than just financial assistance—it represents the government’s dedication to building a fairer, more inclusive society,” he said.
Goh highlighted that by removing financial barriers, the government is enabling students to focus on their ambitions and potential rather than their economic circumstances.
“Education should be a right, not a privilege. The FTES levels the playing field and allows young Sarawakians to succeed based on merit and dedication,” he added.
He also noted that the scheme would contribute to a stronger, more united Sarawak by fostering a sense of belonging and shared progress.
“When people feel supported and valued, social harmony naturally follows. This initiative is a step toward strengthening our community and ensuring that no one is left behind,” Goh said.
The introduction of FTES reflects the government’s broader vision of ONE Sarawak, where unity and progress are built on real opportunities for all.
By investing in education, the government is not just shaping individual futures but laying the foundation for a more resilient and harmonious Sarawak.
