
KUCHING: A 61-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident at KM19 Jalan Bau–Lundu near Kampung Sepadah on Monday afternoon.
Bau District Police Chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahaman said the incident occurred at about 4.40 pm when a Perodua Bezza carrying six family members suddenly went out of control and veered off the road, hitting a JBALB water pipe on the left shoulder.
“Two victims were rushed to Bau Hospital by the Fire and Rescue Department and APAM ambulance, while four others were taken to the hospital by members of the public,” he said.
Haide said one of the passengers, a 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead at 7.33 pm while receiving treatment at Bau Hospital’s emergency unit.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward to assist the investigation or contact the nearest police station,” he added.
Haide also reminded all motorists to drive carefully, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and practise tolerance on the road for everyone’s safety.
