KUCHING: A PetrosNiaga gas dealer recently refused to accept a yellow gas cylinder in exchange from a resident of Taman Daya, near GalaCity which contradicted official policy and also causes unnecessary inconvenience to the public, especially households that rely on gas for daily cooking and essential needs.
“This incident is unacceptable. Members of the public should not have to suffer just because certain dealers refuse to follow the rules,” said Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen.
Kong said the transition to PetrosNiaga must be smooth and consistent for everyone, and that means all dealers must comply with the official policy on gas cylinder exchanges.
He then contacted the CEO and operations head of PetrosNiaga upon receiving the complaint and expressed appreciation for their swift response, adding that the company quickly arranged for another dealer to accept the yellow cylinder from the affected resident.
Kong pointed out that this incident reflected a wider, ongoing issue despite repeated directives from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication.
“There is clearly still a gap between policy and enforcement on the ground. The Ministry must do more to monitor and enforce compliance among all licensed dealers. We cannot let a few uncooperative dealers erode public confidence in the system,” he stated.
He also urged members of the public who continue to face similar problems to reach out to his office.
