
KUCHING: Five local men aged between 18 and 20 were arrested in a special operation carried out by the Kuching District Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division today.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operations, which took place between 11.00 pm on May 11 and 5.00 am on May 12 were led by a senior police officer with the assistance of seven personnel conducted along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakob, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik, and the Masja area in Kuching, Sarawak.

“The purpose of this operation was to curb illegal street racing activities and ensure that road users obey traffic laws and regulations,” said Alexson.
During the operation, he said the five individuals were arrested for suspected offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and three motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the same act for illegal modifications and for further inspection.
A total of 18 individuals and 18 motorcycles were inspected. Police also issued 31 summonses for various traffic violations.
ACP Alexson emphasized that such operations will be conducted regularly. “We urge all road users to always drive responsibly and carefully, avoid involvement in street racing activities, and refrain from modifying their vehicles’ original structures,” he said.
He added that negligent driving or riding endangers not only other road users but also the lives of the drivers themselves.
