KUCHING: The newly launched Saujana–Kg Benuk bus route marks the sixth addition under the SBST Kuching initiative, further expanding public transport access in greater Kuching.
LPKP Sarawak chairman Michael Kong said the new route is a significant step forward in improving connectivity for residents in areas such as Kota Padawan, Bung Barau, and Kampung Benuk.
“This new route plays a crucial role in linking outskirt communities to Kuching city centre. It not only opens up more travel options for the public but also enhances flexibility, especially with overlapping stops shared with the existing Saujana–Bau route at key locations like Timberland Medical Centre, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Farley 6th Mile, and 7th Mile Bazaar,” he said.
Kong added that following the test run, weekday peak hours have been identified between 6.30am to 8.30am and 4.30pm to 7.30pm, during which bus frequency will be increased to every 30 minutes.
“We want to ensure that our public transport system remains a reliable and timely alternative to private vehicles, helping reduce congestion and offering a more affordable and sustainable mode of travel,” he added.
He also encouraged residents in the areas served by the new route to make use of the facility, stressing that public participation is vital to ensuring the long-term success of the SBST Kuching system.
“Our aim is to create a people-centric, accessible, and environmentally-friendly transport ecosystem for all. We thank the public for their feedback and continued support as we work towards improving connectivity throughout Sarawak,” he said.
