KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has ordered the closure of a private development site along Jalan Kwong Tiong following earthworks that were carried out without approved engineering plans which is a violation of Clause 8A of the Sarawak Building Ordinance 1996, which also requires prior planning permission.
He said the unauthorized works have caused significant inconvenience to nearby residents, especially due to the movement of earth being transported to the site. The activity has also led to damage on Council-maintained roads.
Tan Kai, who visited the site during today’s enforcement operation, said the Council could not allow such disregard for regulations.
“All road users, particularly those operating heavy machinery, must act responsibly when using public roads and adhere to legal requirements,” he said.
“Residents have lodged numerous complaints, and the Council bears the burden of repeatedly repairing roads damaged by overloaded vehicles.”
He stressed that companies undertaking such projects are required to apply for road permits and clearly define the travel route of heavy vehicles to reduce wear and tear on roads not designed for industrial traffic.
“This is especially important for small residential roads,” he added.
The Council has officially blocked road access to the project site until further notice.
